Monitoring Mondays: Windows 10 Anniversary Update

This weekly series will provide a recap of the most relevant news to come out of the tech world over the past week, with a specific focus on IT monitoring. It is easy to become immersed in your daily requirements as a sysadmin, but you don’t want to be that guy who is unaware of an important product release or company announcement that may change the way you do your job. With this in mind, it will be the goal of this series to arm you with ‘must know’ information so you can start your week off on the right foot knowing you are properly prepared.

Celebration of Sysadmin Day

Last week we celebrated Sysadmin Day and we hope you did too! Sysadmins keep IT running smoothly around the clock and as a way of honoring all of their hard work, we published a blog on five different ways of appreciating sysadmins that can make a big difference not only Sysadmin Day, but every day of the year. Take a look at our advice (ex. follow IT protocol) and if you follow these five suggestions, we guarantee that your efforts won’t go unnoticed by your favorite sysadmins.

Analyzing the enterprise cloud war

The enterprise cloud sector is one of the more competitive areas of the tech world. AWS, Google, and Microsoft are all competing as the industry-leading companies who have all made great strides in dominating the cloud market. Each organization has had a different journey in developing their enterprise cloud business, and ComputerWeekly has published a story on how the three tech juggernauts have achieved success. From Google’s ‘unified approach’ to marking data center footprints, there are a number of insights to take away from the article that can help you ramp up your own cloud activities.

Windows 10 anniversary update

Microsoft’s Anniversary Update for Windows 10 is set to drop tomorrow (August 2nd) and as expected, all sorts of new features will arrive with the highly anticipated release. Since this is Microsoft’s biggest update to Windows 10 thus far, PC World has provided a ‘everything you need to know’ guide that covers the new improvements such as a re-designed Start menu and web notifications in the Action Center. If you are a diehard Windows user, be sure to give it a read so you can leverage all of the new Windows 10 capabilities.

New Vikings stadium embraces tech

With professional sports teams hosting some of the most crowded events around the world, providing an optimal experience for fans can be a bit of a challenge. In order to cater to those who want a tech-friendly environment, the Minnesota Vikings new stadium is designed to host all of the tech capabilities you possess at your office or home. Wireless access points will boost Wi-Fi/cellular coverage and the Vikings stadium app will put its services in the hand of its fans! Network World has published a slideshow of the new stadium features and the list is quite impressive. If you are a fan of the NFL and find yourself in Minnesota, be sure to attend a game and then push for your favorite team to incorporate these exciting capabilities.
