how do I check if website is up?

I'm looking to setup a check that will monitor websites. I'd like to be able to setup a URL as a host (e.g. www.example.com) and apply a template to it that would check the website's status and show it as down if it wasn't 200. I don't want to ping an IP address or check port 80. I've got about 40 different sites on this server.

Thanks for your time and help.

Check_http will do this - we ship with it. Heres a few examples:

The host template 'Application - Apache' has this service check in it (using check_http), as does the individual check itself - 'HTTP'. You can apply either of these via the host edit screen, just remember to set the host address to the actual website, i.e. www.example.com - as this value is $HOSTADDRESS$ which gets sucked into the service check.

(NB: Not sure if this template is included in Opsview Core or not - if you cant find it, i'm guessing not!).
