Configure SMTP server for notifications

I just installed opsview on ubuntu 12.04.

How do you a specify a SMTP server, port, username, and password for opsview notifications?

I didn't see this option anywhere within the opsview web interface.

I saw this documentation page (http://www.opsview.com/technology/guides-help/opsview-configuration/emai...), but the "/etc/postfix/" directory doesn't exist, so I'm not sure what do to.

Any suggestions?

Re: Configure SMTP server for notifications

Hello,

Opsview sends its notification to the local MTA on the Ubuntu server (in this example); so you will need to configure an MTA - either sendmail,  postfix or any other. There are plenty of guides online to help with this.

Best,

Sam

Re: Configure SMTP server for notifications

Ok, I went ahead and installed and configured exim as a relay. From the terminal, I'm able to send out email and successfully recieve it.

However, email notifications do not appear to be sending from opsview to the MTA when a host goes down.

  • I've entered an email address for the admin user.
  • Under Settings > notification methods, email is enabled.
  • Under Settings > shared notification, I edited the default profile. I enabled email notifications and changed the notification period to 24x7. Notify for host groups is set to "all host groups".
  • For each host's settings, the check period is 24x7, check interval is 5 minutes, max check attempts is 2, and relay interval is 1 minute.
  • For each host's notification settings, the notifications for unreachable, down, recovery, and flapping are checked. The notification period is set to 24x7.
  • Under monitoring > notifications, I see a list of items for the "opsview host with "notify_by_emal" commands for the "opsview" host. I don't see any of the hosts I created on this list.

What am I missing?

Re: Configure SMTP server for notifications

I've been rummaging around in various cfg files looking for something that seems related to email and opsview, but no luck. Also, email notifications never appear in the exim mail queue from opsview.

Any suggestions?

Re: Configure SMTP server for notifications

Since I was not able to get opsview fully up and running, I will not be pursuing it further and will try other software.
