Reload is stuck reloading

I added a new host, and clicked reload, now reload is stuck in an eternal loop

This has stopped Opsview reporting last update in service check updates, though I am able to manually run them via the opsview GUI

Any ideas on how to 'reset' reload or similar?

Using Opsview Atom

You can run a reload from the

You can run a reload from the command line to see if this produces any further errors

As the nagios user,  run

/usr/local/nagios/bin/rc.opsview web_reload

This command is essentially what the reload button in the UI does.  Alternatively, you can run

/usr/local/nagios/bin/rc.opsview gen_config

but this one will not remove any reload flags the UI uses to see if a reload is in progress.

Get no issue when running

Get no issue when running from command line, but now when in reload on the GUI get the following config output

Cannot write to '/var/log/opsview/opsviewd.log': Permission denied at /usr/local/nagios/perl/lib/Log/Dispatch/File.pm line 106.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/local/nagios/bin/create_and_send_configs line 6.

Can you confirm which version

Can you confirm which version of Opsview you are using and also please post the output from:

ls -la /var/log/opsview

it should look something like

-rw-r--r-- 1 nagios nagios 241510 Aug 16 13:50 opsviewd.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 nagios nagios 40903 Aug 16 13:50 opsview-web.log

If you are on Opsview version 5 you should be able to run the following as root:

/opt/opsview/watchdog/bin/opsview-monit restart all

This will shut down and restart all the daemons.  You can use the following command to monitor the restart progress:

/opt/opsview/watchdog/bin/opsview-monit summary

Can you also confirm you have no run out of disk space on the server, by providing the output from:

df -h

It should be a simple solution, I just need to see what is happening.

Can you paste the contents of results.txt directly into a post?  The attachment hasn't come through correctly.

Can you run as root:

chown nagios:nagios /var/log/opsviewd.log
/opt/opsview/watchdog/bin/opsview-monit restart all

and then check the status with:

/opt/opsview/watchdog/bin/opsview-monit summary

Thank you, so much

Was it simply the ownership on that file had changed so it couldn't log any issues?

Am I right in thinking, it is now collating all the missed data from the agents?

Duncan Ferguson

Yes, it was incorrect ownship

Yes, it was incorrect ownship on that one file

And it should now be catching up on all the checks being run.  It will not gather any data from agents since the system broke, but within 5 minutes or so (depending on the check interval for each service check) the monitoring pages should be accurate as to hosts and service checks current status.
