SNMP interface utilization monitoring using check_interface?

I'm not sure if this is in the right place, but here goes nothing anyway. I am trying to monitor some of our burstable external uplinks to send an email alert when they reach a warning (95%) state and a page when they reach critical (99%). All the hosts I am monitoring have different link sizes (10M, 100M, 300M), and I'd like to monitor them using the same service check. Under the individual host, I've enabled SNMP monitoring and, within 'Edit Host Interfaces', I have set 'warning' and 'critical' absolute values for the links in question (i.e.-300M lines have 285000000 for warning and 297000000 for critical). I have then created a Service Check using the plugin of 'check_interface'. Initially this didn't work at all, but then I set Arguments of '-H $HOSTADDRESS$ -C $SNMP_COMMUNITY$', and then '-H $HOSTADDRESS$ -C $SNMP_COMMUNITY$ -w 90 -c 99', but while I know that some of these interfaces are exceeding 95% regularly, we see no Events except an initial 'Service assumed OK - no results received' when it first was entered. Does anyone know what I am missing here?
