Opsview reviews
Just read the Opsview reviews on techworld.com and infoworld.com..
http://review.techworld.com/virtualisation/3237940/opsview-community-edi...
http://www.infoworld.com/d/virtualization/eight-great-virtual-appliances...
I was a bit surprised to see that none of the reviews commented on the distributed possibilities of Opsview...
Neither was there any word on the ODW?
In my opinion these features are what make Opsview a fantastic product to use..
Sincerly,
Alan
The distributed monitoring clearly can't be done with a single VM! So I guess we can let them off there.
ODW though is a way of getting monitoring system data into a separate database. We've heard of people running queries off ODW to get capacity planning reports or availability reports through spreadsheets, and other people just running adhoc SQL statements. We include check_odw_hostgroup_availability as a plugin which works out hostgroup availability over the last 7 days as a check within Opsview, so you're getting continual feedback about availability from within Opsview!
This is all part of Community.
The Enterprise Reporting module is something we've invested quite a lot of time in to get nice looking PDFs, but the power of it is really ODW.

I think the emphasis of these reviews are on what you can do with the community version of Opsview, more specifically the pre-configured VM appliance. Unless you have higher than a bronze subscription, distributed monitoring doesn't appear to be supported (someone please correct me if I'm wrong), and I didn't bother turning on the ODW importing until I got around to installing the enterprise reports module.
