Spam in forums
- Anmelden oder Registrieren um Kommentare zu schreiben
Overnight (10-11th Sept 2010) the Opsview forums were visited by spambots.
Some users may have received alerts from the posts they made.
Needless to say these posts have been removed and the responsible accounts deleted.
We have also tightened up security during registration/login and introduced textual analysis for spam on all forum posts.
Hopefully these measures will help to minimise such abuse in the future.
Apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Thanks for this Rukshan.
Much appreciated.
Tom
Okay, I wonder if I have run afoul of this? I am trying to make a legitimate opsview post, and get the message
Your submission has triggered the spam filter and will not be accepted.
How does one get off of this list so I can get my questions posted?
Thanks,
--vr
Hi vidr,
We use a third-party spam filtering service called Mollom that does a fairly good job of filtering out the high levels of spam we get on this forum.
Obvious ways to avoid having your posts banned are to ensure that your registration details look legitimate. It also picks up on 'bad' terms that are commonly associated with spammers like Viagra or Rolex. No doubt that doesn't apply to you! :)
If you continue to be banned by Mollom, please email us directly at support@opsview.com with as much detail about where you're from (full email address, IP addresses etc) and we'll submit a ticket with Mollom.
Kind regards,
Tom
I am being blocked by Mollom as well. I sent an email to support a week ago and haven't heard anything. I created this new account and was able to post the exact same message I was trying to post, but was being blocked for.
Hi Rob7575,
Apologises for the inconvenience this is causing you. Our support team must prioritize tickets raised by our subscription customers however I'll be happy to help if I can.
In the past Mollom has blocked posts from what they consider to be suspect IP ranges.
If this is something you're willing to share with me then I will investigate your issue further.
Please feel free to contact me at marketing@opsview.com
With best wishes,
Tom
Tom,
Thanks for the offer of help. I tried to email marketing@opsview.com from both my business email account and my personal gmail account. Both bounced back with:
Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:
marketing@opsview.com
Your message wasn't delivered due to a permission or security issue. It may have been rejected by a moderator, the address may only accept e-mail from certain senders, or another restriction may be preventing delivery.
Thanks,

Ron,
Can you please forward me the email you had back (including headers) so I can work out what is going on?
Thanks
Dunsc
What address would you like me to forward the email to?
duncan.ferguson at opsview.com
Thanks
Duncs
Thanks for getting my posting issue corrected.
Ron
I am also suffering from the spam-catcher - trying to post and it keeps coming up that my submission has triggered the spam filter.... :(
hmm seems it doesnt like "repl1cation" - as it only let me post above when I removed mention of it... if I change the 1 to an I it gets caught by the filter...

Hi Tom
Usually Spammers use a software called "xrummer". It's a russian bot and deal with froum spams. We better to keep our eye on new profiles. They will not make posts here, because they make backlinks in the profile.
Thanks
Rukshan
