Opsview Community edition 3.7.1 released

Release Date:
03 Jun 2010

We are pleased to announce the release of Opsview Community edition 3.7.1.

For a brief introduction to this new release check out the official screencast.

New features:

  • Viewports summary: New view called Cells, which displays the highest state for each keyword in a cell layout, to show more information on screen
  • Viewports summary now has an Options button to configure the view style to use as well as which keywords to display
  • New Viewport styles: Errors and Host Cells to list only failures in detail, and then an overall state of all hosts
  • Host Attributes: Advanced feature for creating multiple services based on host attributes! So Opsview can now add extra disk checks for each disk you have, rather than defining a different service check or using an exception
  • Easier keyword editing, so you can add relationships to hosts and service checks from the keyword definition, instead of changing each host or service check individually
  • New keyword feature to be associated for all hosts or all service checks, without needing to tag hosts or service checks individually
  • New host attributes, so you can add arbitrary host attributes to reference in your service check definitions

We've also added Italian (thanks to Emilio Scalise), Swedish and French translations - please let us know if you can help translate into languages that we don't currently support!

Enhancements:

  • check_http modified to output search string in 'string not found' message when '-o' option used
  • Added a new db_runtime dump_status option, to capture status information only in runtime db
  • Added --port option to check_http_authenticated and output retrieved page with --verbose
  • Swap all remaining runtime MyISAM tables to InnoDB
  • List contacts still using a notification method when someone tries to deactivate
  • New ODW database installations will use InnoDB engine instead of MyISAM. A script to convert existing ODW databases will be provided in a later version.
  • Added event handler options at the service check definition
  • Slave node event handler now backgrounds when running
  • MRTG has been moved from the Monitors page to the SNMP tab. All existing data in hosts and host templates will be moved although you cannot use host templates to define MRTG in future
  • Redundant code for performance monitors (MRTG was only one) has been removed
  • Redundant code for Embedded services (SNMP interface checking, Slave-node and Cluster-node) has been removed
  • Notification state on host and services is reset to configuration value after a reload - use scheduled downtime if you have to disable notifications temporarily
  • Event handler execution is also reset to configuration values after a reload
  • Removed unnecessary lookup for keyword name in ODW import
  • On a slave cluster node takeover, now displays on master server when a takeover has occurred
  • On a slave cluster node takeover, now enables notifications for hosts and services, and host passive checks. Disables on a node recovery
  • Slave hosts now default to having a parent of the master host
  • Can now define parents for slave hosts (to allow intermediate hosts between master and slaves in the network topology). Note that during the upgrade, all hosts used as slaves will have their parent information removed
  • Parent Tree now uses same logic as nagios configuration generator
  • Speedup of validation when lots of host groups and service groups used from 3.7.0

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed configuration error when a notification method is assigned to a notification profile, but is subsequently deactivated
  • Fixed configuration error when a service check is excluded from later host templates if it is a dependent service
  • Fixed help output from check_cluster
  • Put 'custom.css' on some previously missed pages (thanks to Emilio Scalise)
  • Correct math for slab memory in check_memory plugin (thanks to Joey)
  • Add missing libmcrypt dependency on Debian opsview-agent package
  • Ensure passive checks are not retained over a reload on slaves
  • Fixed parents for hosts monitored by a slave cluster - now sets to all nodes, rather than just the first one
  • Fixed bug in opsview_master_housekeep not running in 3.7.0
  • Fixed bug in admin search box when searching within an edit page
  • Possible fix for nagios segfault when sometimes cancelling downtimes

Notices

The API for host creation will now reject <performancemonitors> attributes. Use the <use_mrtg> attribute instead to add MRTG to a host
